3/15/20 Church Announcement

Dear friends,

One of the most important parts of my job as your pastor is to look out for all of you.  I take this responsibility seriously, and I take it especially seriously when it comes to those who are least able to protect or care for themselves.  In light of this responsibly, starting tomorrow morning our Sunday worship services will be streamed live on the Greenback First Presbyterian Church Facebook page.  I strongly encourage everyone to watch and worship online from their homes. Beginning Sunday, March 22, our worship services will be online only until the risk of spreading infection among ourselves and our community has passed.  All Growth Groups and other meetings on the campus are also suspended, beginning tomorrow, Sunday March 15.  There will be no choir this week.

I understand that these precautions may seem extraordinary, unnecessary, or premature.  Truly, I want nothing more than to worship and fellowship with our church family as usual.  But I believe that wisdom, prudence, and love require that we begin to do now what is likely to be absolutely necessary in the next few weeks or even days.  Our beloved congregation includes many dear sisters and brothers who would be at extreme risk if they were to contract the COVID-19 virus.  We must love them, and everyone in our community, by taking immediate precautionary actions.

The Elders and myself have begun discussions regarding how we should minister and care for one another as a church over the next several weeks and beyond.  If anyone is fearful or worried, or in need of groceries or other help, please contact me or an elder, and we will get you what you need.  The wise thing to do is to separate from one another physically, but to maintain close contact through the technology God has given us.  Please attend tomorrow’s worship service via Facebook live, were more information will be given about what our church will be doing in response to what is currently happening in our community, our nation, and around the world.

I hope that this situation passes quickly, and in a few weeks or less we are able to make light of how crazy the world seemed to go for a minute.  Whether it does or does not, I am here to love you, serve you, and minister to you whatever may come.  Always remember the words of our Lord: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Blessings,

Pastor Nick
